Slow to fix/update, sub-par story
Ive played this game a long time, mostly because medical issues have kept me starved for any semblance of entertainment. This game provides little-to-none of the plot complexity that drives GoT as a good Telltale game and a great TV series, technical issues that have marred it for ages without fixes even when the issues are widely known and reported, and nowhere near solid user documentation/manuals.
On the plot: conflicts and characters pop up early in the game and move forward a bit, only to drop out without anything like a conclusion. This is not a matter of my not having completed the relevant chapters; I played every chapter of the game to the end before it just quit in the middle of all kinds of plot lines. Now theyve written more chapters, so, having invested in the game already (and still being bored with medical stuff), Im playing again, but the new chapters have little connection to the old, and the same side missions pop up repeatedly, seemingly ad infinitum.
Furthermore, much of the games crafting system seems structured to lure people into spending money on in-game goods that in theory can be earned via adventures, but that I have played *literally* thousands of times without ever seeing one (of an element that one needs multiples of to do anything with!).
Technical issues that have been unresolved since the game debuted include that there is no reliable display of how many resources one has for many basic elements of crafting, and one can earn an achievement or title but not have the game award it to you unless and until you navigate the not even remotely intuitive interface to get to a company employee to change a setting manually.
GoT fans will be MUCH happier with the Telltale Games series. On GoT Ascent, Id say give it a try if you like, since the game itself is free, but do NOT spend any real money on anything, as no amount of in-game achievement will get you a fair chance of much that the game promises. And the key promise which the game doesnt deliver is the one of the title. What you choose doesnt at all change your fate or that of your house, nor does it alter in the least what befalls any other character. Your choices only serve to alter your alignment along one axis or another, with every plot point being the same regardless.
